This time on Volunteer Gardener, Sheri Gramer learns how to achieve year-round interest from a glorious demonstration bed at Bennett Nurseries; Annette Shrader takes an in-depth look at all things hydrangea; Catherine Darnell visits a charming backyard garden in Nashville; and Tammy Algood uses the summer produce yield for Fresh Tomato Pesto Tart.

The All-Season demonstration bed included:
bat-faced kuphea salvia 'maraschino'
minopsis
salvia leucantha (commonly known as Mexican bush sage)
scaevola
verbena 'patio white'

Annette's hydrangeas recipes:
For blue blooms, add 4 Tablespoons of aluminum sulphate to one gallon of water and apply to the base of the plant. Repeat in about a month.

For pink blooms use either powdered or pelletized lime. Sprinkle 3 to 4 cups around the base of the plant and then cultivate into the soil. Repeat in 3 months.

The next growing season should show signs of the desired color in the blooms.
