This style, based primarily on the Greek and to a lesser degree
the Roman architectural orders, is distinguished by symmetrically
arranged buildings of monumental proportions that are finished with
a smooth or polished stone surface. Large pedimented porticos may
highlight the façade, flanked by a series of colossal pilasters.
