Jonesborough was founded in 1779, Tennessee oldest town. Jonesborough served as the Capital of "Lost State of Franklin," the 14th state of the union which was later absorbed by North Carolina. The Chester Inn is the oldest building original to Jonesborough’s commercial district and currently houses Storytelling Foundation International. The National Storytelling Festival started over 30 years ago, was the first celebration dedicated solely to the art of the storytelling. Now there are hundreds storytelling events all over the nation.
